Steve Segner was raised in suburban Chicago earning his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; his Master's degree from the University of Georgia; and his Doctorate from North Carolina State University.

He attended the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hinsdale, Illinois, in the 60's. While enrolled at NCSU at Raleigh, he joined the local UU Church and became Co-Chair of the congregation's College Student and Singles Outreach Program.

Steve joined the UU Society of the Greater Daytona Beach area in 1979, where he now serves on the Board of Trustees and as Treasurer. When UULMF was formed in 2006, accepted the invitation to be a charter member of the Steering Committee.

Early in his career, Steve served in several roles in higher education. In 1985 he became Executive Director and CEO of a small state-contracted substance abuse agency where he served for 24 years.  During his tenure, the agency's service capacity and annual operating budget increased by 500%, mostly through legislative grants Steve was instrumental in securing.

Steve is liaison to the following UU congregations:
  • Tallahassee
  • Pensacola
  • Ormond Beach (Daytona Beach Area)
  • Port Orange/New Smyrna Beach (Community UU Church)
  • Deland (First UU Church of West Volusia)
  • Orange City (Mosaic)
  • UU Congregation of Cocoa
  • Eustis (UU Congregation of Lake County)
