A native of Indiana, Gerald earned BS and MA degrees from Ball State University. With the Indiana State Teachers Association (NEA), he gained extensive expertise in the labor movement and political action work, and trained as an attorney to arbitrate grievances, conduct Unfair Labor Practice hearings and present impasse hearings before the Indiana Education Employment Relations Board.
Gerald and his wife Janet are members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tarpon Springs, Florida.
